What's The Hurry
Learn to Enjoy the Ride
When I create art, it’s all about the journey. For the viewer, it’s more about the destination, although many enjoy watching the process as well.
From the very beginning when the painting is nothing more than a vague idea, to the moment when I reveal it to the world, it’s an amazing process that unfolds with unexpected twists and turns.
Often, the finished product is a mere suggestion of what the original idea was. But that’s ok. I still had the journey.
And then the journey continues as the next idea is born and away we go.
It mimics life like that.
Life really is just one continuous journey.
We often feel we’re working towards a destination. An end all, be all, that when we get there, we have “arrived”.
But it’s really just a fork in the road. When we finally reach our “destination”, we ultimately begin another journey.
Have you ever set a goal and reached it? Of course you have, and it felt good, right? But how long were you satisfied? How long was it before you became restless and set your sights on another goal?
So, the challenge is to keep an eye on the destination because that gives you direction, while fully immersing yourself in the journey. It can be challenging at times, especially when unexpected things happen along the way.
But sometimes those roadblocks or dead ends are there to guide you away from something unproductive or even harmful and toward a better option.
It’s often hard to see at the time, but looking back, you can almost always see how it was helpful to you in the long run.
So, try to stay loose and limber on the road of life.
And learn to roll with the punches that will inevitably come your way.
You’ll be on this or another journey as long as you’re alive, and since your outlook and mindset determine whether it’s enjoyable or not, you might as well choose enjoyment.
Frame disappointments as saving graces and celebrate milestones for the awesome achievements that they are.
Ride the road of life with a sense of wonder and savor all the stops along the way.
We’re hardwired to keep reaching – to continue the journey until we arrive at our final destination. And I don’t know about you, but I’m in no big hurry to get there!
